Supernatural Happenings in The Folly
31st Oct 2009
Bemerton Heath Folly, the 12 acre woodland at the heart of the residential estate, was no place to be on Halloween – unless of course you happened to be a spook, ghoul or vampire, in which case you would have been most welcome.
Over one hundred members of the community aged from 0 to 76 years turned out to enjoy a safe evening of fun organised by the Bemerton Heath Community Centre. After a lantern procession they settled around a roaring fire in the darkness to be entertained by storyteller Amabelle Clarke whose tales of the supernatural held them spellbound as they feasted on ‘dead men’s fingers’ and ‘witches’ blood’ (Hot dog and tomato soup for the queasy). The evening was then rounded off in the community centre with traditional Halloween games in a decidedly spooky environment.
Organiser Stan Spreadbury said: “ This was a magnificent response from the families in our community and goes to show just how much community spirit exists on the Heath. I would like to pay tribute to all the volunteers whose hard work paid off and to Salisbury City Council for funding the event which will now become an annual feature in the community centre calendar.”
