Bemerton Heath Community Centre Opens to Rapturous Applause

9th Dec 2008

Friday 5th December was a momentous day in the life of Bemerton Heath when, after years of campaigning, local residents finally have a community centre they can call their own.

At the opening ceremony, speeches were made by representatives of Salisbury District Council as follows; the Chairman, Councillor Ian McLennan who also cut the ribbon, the Leader of the Council, Councillor Paul Sample, the Portfolio Holder for Community Initiatives, Councilor Brian Dalton and local ward councilors Mike Osment and Iris Evans who also attended as mayor and chair of the Bemerton Heath Residents Association.

The Chairman of the Council officially opens the community centre with the help of Megan Slark from Salisbury High School

A thank you was extended to all those who had worked towards the opening of the community centre, specifically to Stan Spreadbury, Residents Association Entertainments Co-ordinator who has recently given up so much of his spare time to ensure that the centre was open in time.

The Residents Association will now start to deliver a series of activities, beginning with a youth club on Monday evenings for 11-13 year olds, followed in January by a club for 14-17 year old on a Thursday evening.

If anybody would like further information on any of the activities or if they would like to hire out the venue for private parties or meetings please telephone 01722 416885 or email BHNC@salisbury.gov.uk
